Cofounder Discovery

You’re building together. But are you aligned where it matters?

Cofounder Discovery is a private assessment that helps cofounders uncover hidden differences, unclear expectations and important issues that may still be sitting under the surface.

It shows where the partnership is strong, what needs attention and what the founders should talk about next.

Created by Tanis Jorge — who built multiple companies with the same cofounder, helped build Trulioo in its formative years, and later studied hundreds of founder partnerships through interviews with founders and advisers.

Most cofounders have talked about the big things.

But having the conversation does not always mean you walked away with the same understanding.

And a decision that made sense in the early days may no longer fit once the company grows, raises money or adds a larger team.

One founder may think the old agreement still stands. The other may think things have already changed.

Cofounder Discovery helps you find those gaps—and the decisions that may need to be revisited—before they turn into bigger problems.

Founder A

“We already settled that.”

Founder B

“I thought we would revisit it.”

The gap sits between the two.

How Cofounder Discovery works.

  1. Each founder completes it privately

    Most founders should plan for about 90 minutes. You can save your progress and come back at any time.

  2. You receive your own report

    Your private report is based on your answers and is only for you.

  3. Your team receives a shared report

    After all required founders finish, the team receives a shared report. It shows where you are aligned, what needs attention and what you should talk about next. Your private answers are never shown to your cofounders.

What will your results help you see?

Cofounder Discovery can help uncover things such as:

  • you agree on the goal, but not on who decides;
  • you expect different levels of time or sacrifice;
  • an old agreement no longer fits the business today;
  • one founder thinks an issue is settled while the other does not;
  • a difference between you is helping the business;
  • something important has never been fully talked through.

The goal is not to make cofounders identical. It is to understand what the differences mean and what deserves action.

This is about how you build together.

Cofounder Discovery is not a personality test. It looks at the real issues cofounders deal with as they build and grow a company, including:

  • roles and responsibilities
  • money and risk
  • time and commitment
  • workload and expectations
  • decision-making
  • conflict and communication
  • ownership and control
  • outside pressures
  • plans for the future

You do not have to agree on everything.

Good cofounders often see things differently.

One may move quickly. The other may want more proof. One may focus on the big picture while the other sees the details.

Those differences can make the business stronger.

The problem is not that you disagree. It is not knowing which differences are helpful and which ones are starting to get in the way.

Cofounder Discovery helps you see the difference.

You can answer honestly.

Each founder completes Cofounder Discovery privately.

Your actual answers are never shown to your cofounders.

Your private report is based on your answers and is only for you.

After all required founders finish, the team receives a shared report. It shows partnership-level findings, including where the team is aligned, what needs attention and what the founders should talk about next.

The shared report does not reveal who selected a particular answer or reconstruct another founder’s private position.

Private answers stay private. The shared report only shows partnership-level findings.

Tanis Jorge, founder of The Cofounder's Hub
Built from real cofounder experience

Hi, I’m Tanis Jorge.

I spent years building and exiting companies with the same cofounder, including Trulioo, which became a unicorn.

Today, I advise cofounders on how to build stronger partnerships.

While writing The Cofounder’s Handbook, I interviewed hundreds of founders and experts. Those conversations gave me a close look at what helps cofounder partnerships work—and what can cause them to break down.

Cofounder Discovery brings together what I have learned from my own partnership, my work with founders and hundreds of interviews.

It is the assessment I wish more cofounders had before important issues became serious problems.

The problem is rarely the disagreement. It is when you find it.

Most cofounder issues are workable when they surface early — while you are still talking, still deciding together, and nothing has been signed.

The same issue two years later, after a raise, a hire, or a hard quarter, is a different conversation entirely.

Cofounder Discovery cannot guarantee your partnership will work. What it can do is move those conversations earlier, when you still have room to have them well.

About 90 minutes from each founder.

Fall 2026 pilot

Join the Fall 2026 pilot.

We are selecting 10 founder teams to be the first to go through Cofounder Discovery.

There is no cost. In return, we ask each founder to complete the assessment within seven days, join a one-hour session with your cofounders and Tanis to walk through your shared report, take a short follow-up call 30 days later, and tell us honestly what worked and what did not.
